Not for Recycling: The Phone Book

  • Sep 29, 2009
  • Post a comment

So unlike what you'd think you can't throw that outdated phone book into the recycling because it won't get processed it will just end up gumming up the works at the recycling center.  Instead you need to go to this webpage to find a place to recycle the phone book: http://www.yellowpages.com/recycle

I know it seems like a lot of work but it is a small step to make sure that this world is better protected for the future.

Recycled Stationery

I don't mind that people have paper products.  I think that it is something that will always be a part of our society and I think that is great.  Of course when people use new paper instead of recycled paper I don't think it is so great.  It's so easy to help protect trees around the world by using some of the wonderful recycled stationery that is out there like the one I have below.  I mean we could all switch to this stuff and save the planet with one letter at a time.  Plus it looks really nice!

The New Philips LED Light Bulb

  • Sep 24, 2009
  • Post a comment

Say hello to the newest light bulb on the market, the LED light bulb from Philips electronics!  This light bulb that is just about to win the US Dept of Energy's L Prize is about 25x longer lasting than a normal bulb and it tops the CFL bulbs because it has the same type of light that a normal light bulb has.  I can't wait for this bad boy to get on the market so that we can finally pass a law that gets rid of incandescent bulbs and start saving energy without even trying.  Just flip that switch!

Sunday...Sunday..

Sunday seem like such a waste to me sometimes.  I am tired most of the day and I have to work a little so I don't really get a lot of time to just hang out and do nothing.  I mean that is what the weekends are really about right?  It is a good day but for the most part it is not that fun for me...

Is Vertical Farming the Wave of the Future?

CNN : Eco Solutions : Vertical farming

So check out this video and see what you think of Vertical Farming.  I think this could be a solution for the planet as we increase the population on a limited land supply.  Let's do it!

SF Chocolate Festival

I just got back from the SF chocolate festival and it was a lot of fun. If you're going I recommend going with someone and getting one tasting ticket for two people.  Believe me, 15 samples is wayyyy too much for one person.  We had a really good time and the two best things were the Malt from Lori's and the super triple chocolate brownie from the restaurant that I can't remember the name of (it was one of the lower places).  Also the little truffle cake from McCormick's and Kuletos was really good too.  Go check it out!

Woohoo! Bay Bridge San Francisco Poster

Good job to Caltrans today for getting the Bay Bridge completed and not getting too much behind schedule with the unexpected cracked I-Beam.  This is the first step in forever changing out cityscape because of the Bay Bridge will forever be changed.  See below for a poster that memorializes the old Bay Bridge because we won't have it for much longer...

Washing Clothes in Warm - Not Hot

  • Sep 7, 2009
  • Post a comment

I know that everyone loves to wash their clothes in hot because they believe that is how the stains get out (even thought that is what the detergent is for), but I bet what these people aren't realizing is the deep impact this has on our ecological system.  Washing your clothes in hot uses almost TWICE as much energy as washing them in warm.  That is huge.  It would be so easy for everyone to switch to warm, or even cold to help do a little to save this planet.

Sleep Mode is a Killer

  • Sep 3, 2009
  • Post a comment

Power down your computers!  Sleep mode on computers is very popular in the US because computers take so damn long to boot but it is a secret killer of power grids.  Computers still consume 20% of their normal power intake when in sleep mode and they're not doing anything!  This is very bad and we need to just turn the computers off and do the country a carbon-favor.
