I am all for recycling and reusing in this world, but it must be done in a safe manner that doesn't do more damage to the environment than just letting it sit in a landfill. Unfortunately the pictures I have posted below show just how band disposing of something in an unsafe manner can be for the world. I mean just the thought of all those heavy metals seeping back into the water just gives me the chills and makes me worry about the planet we are leaving for the future.

When things like a financial crisis or election happen in the US we too often make the mistake of remembering some of the other terrible things that are happening all over the world. One of those things that Americans have seemed to forgotten about is the struggle of the Tibetan people to have freedom to return to their homeland and live without the oppression of Chinese rule. I think that we all need to do our part to start bringing that idea back into the ether of the American consciousness so that our government will take action and start to pressure the Chinese government into releasing that region of the world back to the Tibetans. To that point, wearing clothes that spread awareness are just as important as speaking it. A picture does speak 1000 words....

Today was a very momentous day for Taiwan and China relations. Today marked the first flight from Taiwan to China (directly) in over 40 years. Lately, the ice has been melting between these two countries but nothing was as big as this. Now Chinese and Taiwanese are allowed to travel freely together and between the two countries. This is great because it further defuses the situation about possible civil war which could have been the reason for WWIII (the US and other western powers would have surely gotten involved as soon as China attacked Taiwan). But now it seems that the world is more about compromise and not war. I think everyone is taking a hint from the damage that the Iraq War has done to our country, economy, and national psyche.
I read this story about people scaling the Golden Gate bridge in SF and I can't help but want to scream "Free Tibet!" When I see stuff like that. It is so sad the things that have been done to the Tibet people, persecuted, forced to leave their homes and still no one helps them. I hope that with all the attention on the Olympics something will change.
At the very least the torch going through SF tomorrow should be interesting :)
