I am all for recycling and reusing in this world, but it must be done in a safe manner that doesn't do more damage to the environment than just letting it sit in a landfill. Unfortunately the pictures I have posted below show just how band disposing of something in an unsafe manner can be for the world. I mean just the thought of all those heavy metals seeping back into the water just gives me the chills and makes me worry about the planet we are leaving for the future.

One thing that people often forget is that donating to charities and Goodwill is a form of recycling. Instead of throwing out old DVDs and VHS tapes, why not give them to your library? Don't throw away that winter coat that's too small, instead give it to Goodwill to help support those that need a coat. The great thing about donating is you can give away things and feel good that it is going to help people that need it the most. I love to donate clothes all the time so much so that I might have too much space in my wardrobe now!
I gotta admit this is a pretty clever shirt. It takes the love of Star Wars and brings it into the real world. Since most Star Wars fans are nerds and therefore either liberal or libertarian it only makes sense that they would love a mash-up of Star Wars and environmental themes. And of course that plays perfectly with the recycling nature of the Jawwaws. Anyone, enough analysis. On with the funny t-shirt!

Recently San Francisco was found to be the town that does the most recycling in the united states. Go SF! Gavin wrote an article for CleanTechnica.com about this improvement for the city by the bay. It is a good article and you all should read it here (http://cleantechnica.com/2009/05/12/recycling-our-way-to-a-more-sustainable-future/), but there is one quote that i thought was particularly interesting:
A few years back we developed—along with the company Recology, our partner in recycling — an innovative program to collect food scraps and turn them into organic soil. Local farms and vineyards now use this soil to grow crops, which are then sold back to consumers in San Francisco. We close the loop locally.
SF is not just recycling the normal paper and plastic stuff, they are also recycling food scraps which is a great source of energy for growing plants. It's this kind of innovation that we need to bring to the state and the rest of the country if we are going to turn this planet around.

So you can never find a place that recycles these things because they are made of plastic and metal. That is really annoying in my opinion since most places can't handle a product like that and so now they are getting into our landfills and ground water. In steps cdrecyclingforfree.com. If you can get the CDs to their centers they will dispose of them properly. So save your cds, DVDs and other stuff and then mail it in or drop it off at their facilities so that we can do a little bit to save this planet.
Check out the list of cities that recycle the most fo their garbage and surprise suprise, we're on top! Go San Francisco! This is something that is awesome for our city, but I know there is so much more than can be done to turn every city in the country into one of these top 25 cities. Let's get started people, there is lots of work to be done.

I know that a title like the one above has to make you wonder what the heck I am talking about, but it is nothing strange to think that there are cool ways to recycle your old glass and plastic bottles. For example you can turn old glass bottles into serving trays for cheese and crackers like below. Of course this is kind of hard, but check out this article with other great way to recycle bottles that might be a little more fun than just putting them in the recycling bin. Remember, if we make recycling fun, then more people will want to do it!
