Good job to Caltrans today for getting the Bay Bridge completed and not getting too much behind schedule with the unexpected cracked I-Beam. This is the first step in forever changing out cityscape because of the Bay Bridge will forever be changed. See below for a poster that memorializes the old Bay Bridge because we won't have it for much longer...

How would you like to be part of a Muni sandwich if you're visiting San Francisco? Kind of scary when you think about it, just having a train crash into you. I don't know what I would do I mean you can't get out of your car because you might get caught under it and being in the car might also kill you because you get crushed. Very scary indeed.

Recently San Francisco was found to be the town that does the most recycling in the united states. Go SF! Gavin wrote an article for CleanTechnica.com about this improvement for the city by the bay. It is a good article and you all should read it here (http://cleantechnica.com/2009/05/12/recycling-our-way-to-a-more-sustainable-future/), but there is one quote that i thought was particularly interesting:
A few years back we developed—along with the company Recology, our partner in recycling — an innovative program to collect food scraps and turn them into organic soil. Local farms and vineyards now use this soil to grow crops, which are then sold back to consumers in San Francisco. We close the loop locally.
SF is not just recycling the normal paper and plastic stuff, they are also recycling food scraps which is a great source of energy for growing plants. It's this kind of innovation that we need to bring to the state and the rest of the country if we are going to turn this planet around.
Check out the list of cities that recycle the most fo their garbage and surprise suprise, we're on top! Go San Francisco! This is something that is awesome for our city, but I know there is so much more than can be done to turn every city in the country into one of these top 25 cities. Let's get started people, there is lots of work to be done.

This is a model of a new boat that a man wants to make with 16,000 plastic bottles to sail from San Francisco to Australia to spread the world about the power of recycling and other things you can do with bottles than just throw them away. I hope this guys does it and I hope that they turn this into a commercial industry so that anyone that wants a recycled boat can get one at a discount rate of course :)

Well I don't think so. Currently 1 in 4 residential structures in the city are what is called "soft story" construction. That means that the bulk of the building sits on top of parking structures or retail spaces and is very susceptible to earthquakes. That is pretty scary to think that basically 1 in every 4th person in the city of San Francisco will be homeless if we get another quake like the one in the 80s. Where is the government? What are they doing to make sure these buildings get up to snuff? Even though the economy is hard, we need to spend time securing our building to make sure we save people's lives.
So the city of San Francisco continues to be the best and most amazing city in the world with it’s progressive steps toward moving the city to less dependence on traditional energy sources and more dependence on renewable sources like solar. Recent legislation passed allows the city to give bigger rebates and make it easier for builders and renters to work together to put solar panels on apartment buildings and condo complexes. By doing this some of the largest power consumers will now be able offset their demand with solar and really make a big dent in the city’s energy consumption (also the city happens to be 60% renters so just imagine if those were all renewable..). I am excited for SF and I hope that the rest of the world will be soon to follow.

In the wake of yesterdays earthquake in Southern California, I can’t help but think that there is going to be another one soon and that it is going to be the BIG ONE that everyone says is going to hit California sometime soon. What does this mean for the residents of the Golden State? Well I think they might want to get ready for the traveling nightmare that is FEMA. FEMA is still trying to clean up from the disaster that was New Orleans, does anyone think they are ready for a major earthquake? Nope, I don’t think so. I am worried for those that live in earthquake regions of California and I hope that they don’t plan on getting assistance because it will not be coming fast if this government has anything to say about it.
